What is Art? is a youth lead project designed to engage and inform communities about public artworks in their area. It also aims to provoke the wider conversation of what art should be.
The first execution of the project was completed in Maungakiekie-Tamaki area with the assistance of local digital media startup, No Six. No Six filmed opinions of artworks within the Glen Innes, Onehunga, Panmure communities that was then rolled out as a larger social media campaign, which was able to be accessed globally. An associated brochure and map of the public art in the area was published, involving research and design.
In addition to the campaign showcasing local artworks over a month, No Six also held a segment during their live stream show to promote the insights that were given from the communities every Saturday of June, 2018.
In collaboration with Auckland Artweek a guided Bike Tour was held, to celebrate the local cycleways and public art along the way.
