In 2019, the Mackelvie Trust established a philanthropic supporters’ group, the Mackelvie Society. The purpose of the society is to generate further backing for the Mackelvie Art Collection through the formation of an acquisition fund.
The Mackelvie Art Collection is an art collection bequeathed to the people of Auckland by benefactor, James Mackelvie. The collection has been added to since it’s establishment in 1885 and is housed between the Auckland Art Gallery, the Auckland Museum and the Auckland Central City Library.
The Mackelvie Society and its members enrich the collection by supporting the preservation and enhancement of the Mackelvie Collection, keeping the Mackelvie Collection alive and growing though the acquisition fund and raising awareness of the Mackelvie Collection.
The Mackelvie Society organises lectures, discussions and other events for its members. Members enjoy the opportunity to join others with a shared interest in learning about the arts through unique and memorable experiences, as well as engaging with artists and patrons.
