Siva Afi Festival is a pioneering event that brings the talents and skills of wāhine and rangatahi to the fore, through a centuries-old traditional art form from Samoa – siva afi/fire knife dancing.

 

Due to New Zealand moving to RED under the COVID-19 Protection Framework, the live Siva Afi Festival in collaboration with Auckland Arts Festival and produced by Polynesian Entertainers and Lightbox Projects was cancelled and moved online.   The Siva Afi Online Festival presents an exhilarating pre-recorded line-up of performances including: Popea Lautala, Le Taupou Manaia – Auckland, Tautua Dance and Wellington Siva Afi, Wahine Toa Afi Exhibition and more.  Audiences worldwide can experience the phenomenon of siva afi ailao as South Auckland hosts an online fire knife competition between local secondary schools alongside a free festival of wāhine toa afi performances.  Featuring MCs Tom Natoealofa & Louisa Tipene Opetaia. A unique collaboration with PolyX Night Markets ensures audiences could order food and craft and have it delivered to their door while watching the Festival online.
